The Dante Community Association is a non-profit organization that has a vision to transform the Dante community into a model town for visitors and one in which people will desire to raise a family and grow old. This will be achieved through radical clean-up efforts, downtown beautification, and enhanced outdoor and youth activities. In conjunction with robust partnerships with neighboring towns and counties, Dante will once again see values in the homes, visitors to the town, and a resurrected sense of hope, and ultimately pride in this great community, all while preserving the extensive history and small-town values.
We need your help to ensure a successful implementation of our identified projects we will be working on in 2017. Just with some of our short term projects we have identified over $92,000 in funds needed to complete these projects. Some of these projects include:

A Win for Dante!
The Dante Community Association in partnership with the Russell County Board of Supervisors has been awarded a grant of $118,660.00 from the Virginia Department of Transportation. This will be used for the cleanup and revitalization of the Dante Depot located in the future downtown historic district. With this grant, a new roof will be placed on the structure and interior work will be completed for up to two retail spaces in our community. The DCA has been working with the Virginia Tech Community Design Assistance Center to help create a visual representation of what the Depot could become in the very near future. These graphics will be incorporated as possible into the final design plan for the finished structure. Russell County has already begun cleanup work at the site and the interior of the structure is now clear of debris. The renovation work will begin in early 2019. This is a big win for our community! Since at least 2011 citizens have been pushing for the redevelopment of the Depot and we are proud to have been able to contribute to this project and see it to fruition.

It All Starts With a Plan
This year the community of Dante was lucky enough to have some of the best and brightest community planning minds come down from the Virginia Tech Community Design Assistance Center. Over 40 students in the Architecture and Urban Studies program came to Dante to meet with locals and turn the town to get a better understanding of the community they were planning to improve. Out of this meeting came 20 plans for Dante with many different areas covered.

After completing all the designs Virginia Tech’s CDAC was able to come in June to compile a final concept. They were able to work with the community and look through all the student charette designs to revise them into one master plan for the Dante Downtown area.
